AL4 PWM solenoid problem

Common issue with AL4/DPO automatic transmissions (used in Renault, Citroen and Peugeot passenger cars from 1998-2006) is a PWM solenoid problem. The fault light lights up on the dashboard and possibly the fault message "transmission malfunction" on the trip computer. One likely reason for the fault light to come on is low oil pressure in the automatic transmission. In this case, the fault code "P006 oil pressure regulation" is logged in the fault memory, i.e. the oil pressure regulation has not been successful. The fault can be verified if you have a diagnostic device.

On the gearbox side, you can find real-time information about the oil pressure. When idling, the oil pressure must be 3-21 bar in the D position and 2.5-3 bar in the P position. During driving, the values should be 12-21 bar at the start and 3-12 bar during driving. If the oil pressure does not correspond to the reference values, then the fault is probably in the pressure compensation solenoid (EVM).

Solenoids can be changed without removing the transmissions. Remove the black oil pan from the transmission front side and then remove valvebody beneath it. On the back side you find to identical solenoids. We recommend to change both at the same time.

We sell a solenoid change kit which includes two Borg Warner PWM solenoids, oil pan gasket and 4 litres of Pemco iMatic 452 transmission oil.

Solenoid OE numbers PSA 2574.16 / Renault 7701208174

If the solenoid connectors are different color than in the olds ones, you need to update the tranmission software. The new connectors are black and the old style solenoid connectors can be white or red.

If there's metal in the transmission oil, then the solenoid change isn't propably enough to fix the problem. Metal indicated that there are mechanic issues inside the transmission.
