BMW 5HP19 and Audi/VW 5HP19FL/FLA harsh D gear change
Audi and BMW passenger cars with ZF5HP19 or 5HP19FL/FLA automatic transmissions may experience problems with EDS1 solenoid wear or being stuck. In certain situations, either a "harsh" D drive gear can be engaged or a hard downshift during engine braking. Often the symptoms appear more clearly when the gearbox has warmed up. The problem is more common in 2003 and newer models.
The repair can be done by replacing the faulty EDS1 solenoid with a new one. At the same time, it is worth checking the "Modulating pressure valve", i.e. the free movement of the regulating pressure valve. You can order a new solenoid from us:
EDS1 solenoid fits to Pulse generator TSS type (from year 2000 up>) ZF part no 0501 209 875
Solenoid 5HP19 Pressure regulator (black)
EDS1/EPC EDS1 solenoid fits to Hall effect TSS type (from year 2003 up>) ZF part no 0501 210 725
Solenoid 5HP19/5HP19FLA EPC/EDS
We recommend to change oil filter and transmission oil (PEMCO 452 ATF, total of 8L) at the same time.
